7th period
Group 1 - Rhyme

A rhyme is a short poem in which the sound of the word or syllable at the end of each line corresponds with that at the end of another. You make think that rhyming is just a simple thing that people do to make their poetry sound cool. But its not! There are many different types of rhymes.

For example, perfect rhyme. A perfect rhyme is a rhyme that starts with different sounds but ends with the same. For example,

My favorite food has got to be pie,
if we didn't have it we all might as well die,
apple, key lime, pecan, and blueberry
those are all good but we can't forget cherry
.

Another type of rhyme is a Consonant rhyme. A consonant rhyme is a rhyme that's words have the same consonants but different vowels.

For example the words
limp and lump. See how they changed the vowel but none of the consonants?

The next type of rhyme is identical rhyme. An identical rhyme is a rhyme that uses the same word to rhyme with itself however it may hold a different meaning.

We paused before a house that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground--
The Roof was scarcely visible--
The Cornice--in the Ground.

The last type of rhyme we have is a near rhyme. A near rhyme is a rhyme that's final consonant sounds the same but initial consonants and vowel sounds are different.
For Example, LOVELY, FUNNY
